We possess extensive expertise in various depot assets, ensuring our capability to provide guidance from the early stages of GRIP/PACE, through design development to the conclusive implementation with as-built sign-off procedures.
Our proficiency encompasses a wide array of depot assets, including but not limited to:
• Wheel Lathes
• Bogie Drop Pits
• Fuelling Roads
• Overhead Gantries
• Raised Cleaning Walkways
• Bogie Turntables
• Jack Roads
• HVAC Systems
• Hoists
• Pit Roads
• Embedded Track
• Stabling Roads
• Various types of Buffer Stops and Wheel Stops
We invite you to contact us should you require assistance in navigating your next depot upgrade. Our team is ready to contribute its expertise to enhance the success of your project.
One pivotal factor contributing to the successful completion of projects lies in the detailed execution of an extensive early GRIP/PACE stage study. This stage serves as a crucial measure to identify and resolve initial challenges that, if left unaddressed, could lead to subsequent implications in terms of both time and costs. Our organisation takes pride in possessing the requisite expertise to conduct such studies adeptly, effectively capturing and mitigating challenges at an early stage.
Whether the project involves a brownfield site for a new depot facility or necessitates the enhancement of capacity in an existing single-track railway, our proven track record attests to our capability to navigate through feasibility options. These options are systematically evaluated, enabling us to select a singular option and proceed with confidence, minimising unforeseen implications.
Our comprehensive feasibility studies encompass various critical aspects, including:
• Viability Assessment: Rigorous evaluation to determine the feasibility of the proposed scheme.
• Land Boundary Analysis: Precise calculation of the required land area for the project.
• Materials Evaluation: Assessment of the quantity of new and serviceable materials essential for project execution.
• Sustainability Considerations: Exploration of potential opportunities for the reuse of existing materials to align with sustainability objectives.
• Planning Construction Phasing: Strategic planning of construction phases to conduct impact assessments on the existing rail infrastructure.
By adhering to these practices, we ensure a thorough understanding of project nuances and lay the foundation for successful outcomes, characterised by efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and minimal uncertainties.
Our team boasts significant proficiency in the development of track drainage designs. It is worth acknowledging that drainage design has long been governed by Civil Engineering standards. Nevertheless, we have been approached by numerous clients seeking our assistance in crafting customised track drainage schemes. These schemes often deviate from the requirements of Civils standards due to various constraints such as land limitations, logistical challenges, and budgetary considerations.
In response to these demands, we are committed to formulating tailored solutions for sites confronted with such constraints. Our approach involves the meticulous development of options aimed at providing optimal drainage solutions. These solutions are characterised by their affordability, feasibility, comprehensive risk assessment, and alignment with the requirements set by Route teams for installation within their infrastructure.
PBH have developed linespeed increase solutions and reports for projects across the network in support of enhancement schemes.

Our highly skilled team collaborates closely with clients, ensuring a right-first-time approach and efficient delivery in accordance with specified remits and requirements. This dedication not only meets but exceeds client expectations, resulting in enduring partnerships and repeat business.
In addition to design production, we offer the services of a CRE-D representative and, if necessary, a CEM-D, adhering meticulously to the requirements outlined in NR/L2/RSE/02009.
PBH are ready to support any plain line-related project requirements, boasting a robust portfolio of satisfied clients for whom we consistently deliver high-quality design solutions.
The assessment of clearance is a key factor aimed at ensuring the optimal space between moving trains and surrounding infrastructure. Our specialised software, coupled with the expertise of our team, facilitates comprehensive gauging assessments. These assessments provide our clients with a precise understanding of the clearance between moving vehicles and infrastructure, either during the design phase or in the pre/post-construction stages.
Our experienced team engages in close collaboration with clients and Network Rail Gauging Engineers, ensuring efficient project delivery aligned with specified requirements. This collaborative approach encompasses gauging assessments across various domains:
Lineside Infrastructure: Gauging assessments are conducted during the design phase to guarantee compliance with clearances. This encompasses all lineside infrastructure, including Overbridges, Tunnels, Underbridges, Signals, and Antennas. Upon installation, our gauging team can provide on-site analysis, offering valuable insights for handover purposes.
Platforms: Clearance and stepping distance assessments form a crucial aspect, whether integrated into optioneering reports, platform alteration schemes, or post-construction activities.
New Vehicle Introduction: Gauging assessments are systematically conducted along entire routes to identify structures requiring attention for the seamless integration of new vehicles.
By leveraging our expertise and cutting-edge technology, we strive to deliver detailed gauging assessments that contribute to the safety and operational efficiency of rail infrastructure, making PBH a market leader in this discipline.
The PBH team possesses in depth knowledge and expertise in addressing the intricacies of platform and station infrastructure. Our understanding of gauging, coupled with our track design capabilities, positions us as well-equipped professionals to undertake various platform interface projects.
