From Strategic Start-up to Engineering Pillar: Celebrating the Inaugural Year of PBH Civils Consulting

It has been a landmark year for the PBH Rail Group. What began as a strategic initiative to bolster our internal capabilities has rapidly matured into a core pillar of our consultancy. Today, we are proud to celebrate the first anniversary of Civils Consulting, a department that has evolved from a specialist start-up into a powerhouse of engineering excellence.

BUILDING A POWERHOUSE TEAM

Under the leadership of Managing Director Gary Robson, the division has seen exponential growth in both talent and technical depth. In just 12 months, the team has grown from a single specialist to a robust unit of six industry experts.

The division’s capabilities were significantly strengthened this year by the high-profile appointments of Technical Director Steve Scott and Principal Geotechnical Engineer Lin Lee. Together with Gary, the leadership team brings over 60 years of combined experience to the table, providing the “full-system” engineering perspective required to navigate the complexities of a modern, resilient railway.

PROVEN DELIVERY: 36 PROJECTS AND COUNTING

The technical rigour of the Civils team has been tested and proven across over 36 successfully delivered projects in their first year alone.

A standout highlight was the complex platform remediation at Limehouse Station in London. Operating within a high-pressure, live rail environment, the team provided critical structural solutions that ensured the continued safety and longevity of the asset without disrupting vital commuter services. This project perfectly illustrated the team’s ability to marry technical innovation with the logistical demands of the UK’s busiest rail corridors.

THE EVOLUTION INTO A STANDALONE CONSULTANCY

While Civils Consulting was initially established to provide integrated support for our OLE and P-Way departments, its trajectory has shifted.

As we move further into 2026, the division is transitioning into a standalone consultancy. PBH Civils is now directly engaging with Tier 1 clients across the UK, delivering independent, large-scale design and specialized geotechnical services.

“Our goal was always to provide a seamless, multidisciplinary offering,” says Gary Robson. “But the market demand for high-quality, independent civil and geotechnical design has allowed us to accelerate our growth. We aren’t just supporting projects anymore; we are leading them.”

LOOKING TOWARD A RESILIENT FUTURE

As the rail industry faces the dual challenges of aging infrastructure and the need for climate resilience, the PBH Civils team is positioned to provide the expertise needed for the next generation of rail travel. Whether integrated into a wider PBH Group project or acting as an independent lead, our Civils team is ready for the challenges of the year ahead.
